It can be a frightening experience to be struck with food poisoning, but when caught early, it is often treatable at an urgent care center. Urgent care professionals are trained to assess potential causes of food poisoning and provide appropriate diagnosis and treatment for it. Treatments for food poisoning may vary based on the severity of the symptoms and may include prescribing medications, hydration therapy to replace fluids lost from diarrhea or vomiting, as well as helping you create a plan to monitor your health while recovering. Fortunately, with the right attention and care, most cases of food poisoning can be treated successfully within a few days.
Afraid you or a family member may have the stomach flu? Jefferson Urgent Care is here to help! A case of the stomach flu can hit you like a sledgehammer and keep you from performing even the smallest of daily tasks. If you feel as if you, your child or a loved one may be suffering from a bout of stomach flu we can help you get back on your feet sooner rather than later. Stomach flu is normally caused by one or many types of viral infections that can cause havoc on your digestive system. Many people associate stomach flu with the dreaded flu virus, but they are actually two different things. If you have been exposed to someone with the stomach flu your odds of also getting sick are much higher.
Urgent care can provide essential treatments for the unpleasant symptoms of diarrhea. While it may not be something people like to talk about, it is important to recognize that timely medical intervention in such cases can be life-saving. Urgent care centers are designed to provide quick and effective treatment while reducing the wait times associated with traditional emergency rooms. Patients will likely receive a diagnosis and medication options that best address their illness, allowing them to return home quickly and recover more quickly than if left untreated. It’s comforting to know that when those sudden bouts of diarrhea strike, help is only a short distance away.
At Jefferson Urgent Care, we understand how uncomfortable dehydration can be. That’s why our facility is committed to providing patients with the best possible treatment and care available. We offer a personalized approach to treating dehydration in a safe and comfortable environment along with resources and guidance to help keep dehydration away for good.
The first step our doctor and medical staff will do for a patient who is suffering from severe vomiting is to focus on hydration. If you, your child or a loved one has been throwing up consistently, although not the main reason for their condition, dehydration can be a serious problem. If the ill individual is not able to keep fluids down an IV will likely be started to ensure the body is hydrated as quickly as possible.
Once the patient is fully hydrated, which is critical for anyone experiencing severe vomiting, the medical staff and doctor will be able to better ascertain the exact cause.
Have you noticed your child has red, watery eyes and you’re wondering if they have allergies or something else? There is a good chance they may have conjunctivitis, more commonly known as the dreaded, highly contagious pink eye.
If you are suffering from a mild case of conjunctivitis it is likely to go away within two weeks, but taking no action can lead to other members of your household also “catching pink eye”. It’s best to visit our urgent care center as our medical staff will be able to ascertain the severity of your specific condition and may prescribe medication and/or ointment to help expedite the healing process.
Sprains, Strains, Injuries, & Breaks
Having a broken bone is an uncomfortable experience for anyone, which can be scary. However, in order to make sure you get the best treatment possible and heal as quickly as possible we utilize X-Rays at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. This allows medical staff to accurately determine if your bones are fractured or simply bruised so that they may recommend the proper course of action—which very rarely involves surgery! Our team will also talk with you about any further steps should it be determined that such serious measures are needed.
For anyone who has experienced a sprain, they know just how painful and debilitating it can be. Urinary Tract Infections
If you, a loved one or your child is experiencing discomfort or severe pain when urinating it’s quite likely due to a urinary tract infection and should seek medical treatment immediately.
Failure to seek treatment may lead to the infection spreading into the kidneys and could result in organ damage.
Your medical practitioner will perform a thorough exam as well as multiple tests to better understand the exact type of UTI you may be experiencing including: testing of the urine, urinary tract x-ray, or ultrasound of the kidney.
